When I think about life and what really matters, and I consider my education in accounting, it makes me think about a balance sheet. Usually a balance sheet is a snapshot of a company’s assets, liabilities, and equity.
We can have all the assets in the world, but we can’t take them with us when we die. Wealth can be passed down from generation to generation, but even then, eventually, it all fades away. When I think of eternity, it is only the souls of men and women that will last forever.
In my opinion, the ultimate balance sheet in life is simply who is going to live with God for eternity and who is not.
Live life in such a way as to help the most people spend eternal life with God. Use your balance sheet, your assets, build your wealth, pass on knowledge and wisdom, all with the vision of helping others come to know God. Even though I’ve dedicated everything that I have and that I am to this vision, I have to daily remind myself of these truths.
